Welcome to the home page of the ATLAS Southwest Tier 2. The Southwest Tier 2 is a consortium among the physics departments of the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), the University of Oklahoma (OU) and Langston University (LU). We operate a distributed computing facility to support the ATLAS experiment in Geneva, Switzerland. ATLAS is one of the particle collision detectors used at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) operated by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).

Our Tier 2 is one of five in the United States of America. The others are the Northeast Tier2, ATLAS Great Lakes Tier 2, Midwest Tier 2 and the Western Tier 2. The Tier 1 facility for the United States of America is located at the Brookhaven National Laboratory.

The SWT2 is funded via the National Science Foundation (NSF) as a subcontract to the U.S. ATLAS Operations program (PHY-119200).

The first three clusters are funded directly from the Tier 2 subcontract. The OU_OSCER cluster is a campus resource for OU. We are able to use this cluster opportunisticly. The LUCILLE cluster, operated by Langston University, is funded from an NSF-MRI Grant and it too is used in am opportunistic fashion.
